Memory Revisions
My work is about the nature of memory. The images I have created stem from a combination of my experiences, fantasies, and foremost, family. They reflect the idea that as our lives progress, our memories and experiences often begin to blur and become disjointed. As two occurrences start to blend, we subconsciously invent new memories that have never existed. I have collaged old, found family photographs over my own more recent landscape photographs. The landscapes originate from places that are meaningful to me, whether they be from an experience abroad, my hometown, or simply an establish I have frequented for years. The mixture of two photographic techniques separating the background and the figure distinguish the found and the familiar but are conjoined as one image in order to express a new, revised memory. The images with text describe my own personal recollections from years past, each story focusing on one memorable event or subject. This body of work has allowed me to revisit and connect with the past, and in the process, I have created new memories of my own.
