K Ellen Weiss Abstract Mixed Media on canvas
K. Ellen grew up in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh (which in the 60s and 70s was the artist-hippie section). She was fortunate enough to have exposure to many well-known and extremely talented and creative people. Her family valued all forms of art, from drama to architecture. She attended the Ivy College of Professional Art(which in it's day was the arch rival of The Pittsburgh Art Institute).K. Ellen has been creating art, in one form or another, since her teens. From painted clothing, faux wall finishing, clay creations and jewelry. When she married in the 80s, unlike most brides that registered for china and linens, K. Ellen asked for art. To this day, she still cherishes her Braque and Appel.
She believes that art makes the home. You should never buy art to match the furniture, you should buy furniture to compliment your art. Many times in her life her living quarters were less than thrilling. It was through the art that she loved that she transformed her spaces into a warm inviting home.
