Paint Free….Be Free and Paint, sponsored by the Art Center, are free public art happenings at the North Valley Art League, Lassen NP Day in the Park, the Salmon Festival and at other places in the Region. Howard “Luke” Lucas returned to “home” after retiring from a 32 year public school teaching career. He enjoys being close to his extended family who reside in Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Butte Counties and returning to places from his childhood. An active artist in the local region, he is a member and past president of the North Valley Art League and is a member of the Society of Western Artist, Redding Salon, Shasta County Arts Council and Intermountain Artists. Luke was a founding member and past president of Artbeat Gallery, was recognized with an award for Innovation in the Arts by the Santa Clara Arts Council in 1993. He previouly served on the San Jose Art League Board of Directors and is the Program Chairman for the Los Gatos Art Association. and Los Gatos. Art Association Luke's paintings have received recognition. A Featured artist at several gallery shows currently he exhibits as a member of Redding Salon, North Valley Art League and the Society of Western Artists. He actively exhibits fine art at Redding Civic Center (fall 2005), Shasta Regional Medical Center, Shingletown Medical Center, Scott Valley Bank, North Valley Art League and other local venues as well as at the Mt. Lassen Art Center. His work has appeared in juried shows at the San Jose Museum, the Triton Museum and the SWA annual show at Marin Civic Center and currently at the STRS Building in Sacramento.
