diane cirafesi Painting/Drawing/Mixed Media
ARTIST’S STATEMENT:
Born 1953 in Norristown, PA, Diane Cirafesi graduated from West Chester University with a B.A. in Humanities/Fine Arts. She also studied under the notable Chadds Ford artist, Rea Redifer.
Ms. Cirafesi’s work has traditionally focused on the human form, through drawing, painting, and mixed media, including surprising juxtapositions of traditional use of underpainted gold effects next to a collaged piece of press-on graphic type, jewelry, and found objects.
Her pieces include imagery derived from socio-religious influences and cultural and spiritual iconography Italy and Russia, and from frequent travels to Taos, New Mexico, and Europe.
She defines her process as working and reworking an image, leaving artifacts of the struggle of the toolmark and of the image, creating a contemporary statement and form.
In addition to showing regionally for over 30 years, Ms. Cirafesi is a co-founder of The Art Trust in West Chester, a non-profit contemporary gallery, whose mission is to enhance the cultural environment of Chester County by linking business and philanthropy with the arts.
Ms. Cirafesi is included in the book 100 Artists of the Brandywine Valley by Catherine Quillman.
